Syrah du Monde®

Shiraz World Tasting
The second edition of the Syrah du Monde® international wine competition will be held on 15 and 16 May 2008 in Ampuis, France.

This international competition will bring together wines made from the Syrah/Shiraz varietal. The goal of this qualitative confrontation is to select the world's best Syrah/Shiraz wines. Its ambition is therefore to highlight Syrah/Shiraz wines from throughout the world each year by presenting medals that are reliable and thus representative.

The Syrah varietal was born a very long time ago on the hillsides of the northern Rhône Valley. It has since been spread successfully to other French regions and all over the world. As such, Syrah/Shiraz wines display a rich array of sensory characteristics that reflect their different terroirs, climates and winemaking practices.

This meeting will therefore offer a unique occasion to bring together and discover Syrah/Shiraz wines in all their forms: red, rosé, still, sparkling, dry or sweet.

Syrah du Monde®: a special place amongst international competitions ? quality standards that go well beyond the norm

Thanks to its stringent methodology: strict application of international standards, stringent selection of expert judges, an organisation based on high-quality tasting processes, and a scientific approach to the analysis of results.

The medals awarded are thus based on reliable and recognised selection criteria, which are the key to real differentiation in a highly competitive market where the vast array of products can often be confusing. Wine buyers, opinion leaders and consumers are looking today for such distinctive marks of quality.

The founding motto of Syrah du monde® is:
Diversity, quality and rigour as shown by:
  • The organisation of a flawless competition, based on quality:
  • - Limitation on the number of wines tasted by each judge, ideal tasting conditions (sensory isolation, tasting rhythm, etc.), secure, computerised processing of results.
  • - Compliance with the international competitions rules and strict application of the ISO 9002 quality assurance standard.
  • - Guaranteed implementation of the scoring criteria for international wine competitions.
  • The quality and reliability of our quantitative tools:
  • - Rigorous selection of expert judges, based on experience, diversity of backgrounds, professionalism, determination of their sensory profile and training in tasting methodology.
  • - Annual assessment and scoring for each taster.
  • - Continuous improvement of the reliability of our sensory analysis tools.

On 8 September 2006, Syrah du Monde® received the official endorsement of the French Ministry of the Economy, Finances and Industry (DGCCRF) with publication in the EU's official gazette. As such, the competition is authorised to award marks of quality that wineries can display on award-winning wines.

Syrah du monde® is supported by an organising team composed of wine and grape professionals. The team have more than 15 years of experience in creating and organising international wine competitions, which over the years have distinguished themselves from other international tastings thanks to quality standards that go well beyond the norm.
